The Secondary Schools Triathlon
Champion 2008
Congratulations
all our junior members (and training partners) for
their great performances last Friday 31st October.
UWA Tri Club banked 7 medals out of a possible 18!
What looked
like being great conditions for the 2008 State School
Sport Triathlon Championships in Shelley turined
out to be great conditions for sharks as well. Apparently
a shark was sighted in the river prior to the race
resulting in the swim being cancelled and the event
becoming the State
School Duathlon Champs. Obviously hindering the
better swimmmers, but favouring the stronger cyclists
and runners.

Congratulations
to all who competed and good luck in the coming
selection races.

News from Abroad
Our very
own Flick and Jeremy raced in Ireland on Saturday
(12th July) in a ITU European Cup. Flick finished
3rd on the podium with the fastest run of the ladies
and Jeremy came in at 23rd.
Last week,
Flick managed 4th place in the 3rd French GP event,
being out-
sprinted by fellow Aussie Erin Densham right to
the line (again Flick had the fastest run of the
day!).
Two
weeks ago little Flicka won in Nouatre, France and
broke the course record! She also banked 1750 Euros
for her performances. Well done Flick & Dr Drake
– you are doing us proud!

UWA
Triathlon Club is a Healthy Club!
Through
the sponsorship of Healthway and Sports Medicine
Australia, the Club is in the process of developing
a Healthy Club Policy. The Policy is aimed at promoting
healthy living within the club and broader community
using a holistic approach to health rather than
focusing on one particular health issue. It focuses
on the areas of tobacco control, sun protection,
injury prevention, healthy eating and sensible alcohol
practices.
UWA Triathlon Club is one of approximately 200 clubs
to be successful in receiving the ‘Healthy
Club’ sponsorship. The sponsorship will be
used to further develop a safe and enjoyable environment
for Club members and their families.

UWA Triathlon
Club - State Club Champs 2007
Congratulations
to everyone who competed in the race - UWA had a
fantastic turn-out and continued to dominate the
event by winning the President's Trophy for the
3rd year in a row!
Thank to
you to all Club members, both old and new, for coming
along to support the Club. Our success over recent
years reflects the superb guidance and coaching
the Club receives from Grant and our other coaches
and shows the high level of camaraderie and enthusiasm
in the Club. The Club uniform was worn with pride
and set UWA apart from the other clubs. This shows
that club spirit is very much alive – keep
it up!
Another
big thanks go to the various committee members who
assisted in organising the post-race barbeque and
eats. A great way to start off the season!
