The liar Detector Machine – What Is It?

liar detectorMeasuring the trustworthiness is something which interrogators do to get at the fact of an individuals statements. Kinesiology, The analysis of body language, speaks louder than words to people who know how to read body language. Someone who is lying to you rarely makes eye contact, covers his mouth, scratches his nose, rubs the back of his throat, clears his throat , blinks his eyes, drinks water too, and fidgets with his toes. He does this while his face, his perspiration, and his voice trembles blushes. When President Bill Clinton was the subject of a deposition for his participation in the White House sex scandal in the late 90s, you might have seen these actions. These the stress in lying involved constantly accompany effects. Such effects are not always visible but may be measurable using instrumentation that detects changes in a persons physiology.

What is a polygraph machine? A polygraph machine, also called a lie detector, describes this instrument that records and measures the changes in many processes. Polygraph literally means many writings as the name suggests, the liar detector is a conglomerate of several tools used to measure several different processes including:

  • Pulse rate and blood pressure.
  • A machine which measures differences in the skins resistance. Sweating increases the conductivity from the skin because of electrolyte concentration.
  • A machine which measures depth and the speed of breathing.

Some Polygraphs involve another instrument. There is a plethysmograph a tool that attaches to the index finger and can be used to measure blood circulation and oxygen concentration. Not all polygraph examinations are conclusive. There are a number of faults involved with administering a polygraph. Not everyone exhibits the physiological effects that are generalized that liars do. Alcohol, drugs, illegal or legal, and drugs can affect an individuals physiology which would nullify the results of a polygraph. Illnesses or previous surgeries can affect the results of a polygraph and of course the examiners proficiency in the use of the polygraph machine. Also, somebody who is an expert in lying may nullify the results of a polygraph examination. Actresses and actors do so for a living. In essence they are specialist liars. For These reasons, results of a polygraph examination are inadmissible in court systems. They are used to steer law enforcement when investigating a crime.
