The University of WA Triathlon Club is one of the oldest triathlon clubs in WA. It started as the relatively informal Rottnest Island Mainland Triathlon Club in the mid 1980s, shortly after the sport began in WA and affiliated as the UWA Triathlon Club with the UWA Sports Association in 1990, although most of its members have always come from outside the University community.
The training programme has evolved throughout, starting as a mixture of informally organised training, sometimes linked with other training programmes, through to the current association with UniSwim which provides a highly regarded, structured programme catering for primary school children upwards and beginners through to world class athletes.
We have organised a number of successful inter and intra-club triathlons and aquathlons on the campus, at Matilda Bay and Lake Leschenaultia and developed a distinctive uniform which members wear with pride. The club has achieved considerable success, from developing triathletes up to world standard, through to facilitating positive networks and social and sporting experiences for its members. We have won the per-capita inter-club state championships a number of times, and many members have had success at state, national and international levels. We have also achieved considerable success within the University, with many members receiving University awards such as Blues and Sports Scholarships.
